Non-renewal of the authorisation for four plant protection actives
The authorisations of four actives were not renewed.
The authorisation for the active substance Clofentezine (CAS No. 74115-24-5) was limited until 31.12.2023. With Regulation (EU) 2023/2456 published on 8.11.23, the authorisation for plant protection products containing this active substance expires on 11.5.24 with a use-by period of 6 months. The acaricidal active substance was only used in one plant protection product in Germany. The maximum residue limits for many types of fruit and vegetables are 0.02 mg/kg; only for some types of soft fruit are the limits even higher in some cases. With the end of the authorisation, the maximum residue levels should then be reduced to 0.01 mg/kg.
The active substance Metiram (CAS no. 9006-42-2) belongs to the group of dithiocarbamates and was originally authorised until 31 December 2024. The authorisation of the contact fungicide has now been revoked ahead of schedule on 28 May 2024. The corresponding Regulation (EU) 2023/2455 came into force on 28.11.23 and provides for a use-by period until 28.11.2024 for plant protection products containing this active substance. The only active substance from the group of dithiocarbamates authorised until 15 March 2025 is the active substance ziram.
The EU Commission has decided not to renew the authorisation of Triflusulfuron-methyl (CAS no. 126535-15-7) with Regulation (EU) 2023/2513 of 16 November 2023. The herbicide was initially authorised until 31/12/2023. Plant protection products containing this active substance must now be withdrawn from the market by 20 February 2024 and remaining stocks must be used up within six months. With the exception of nuts (0.02 mg/kg), the authorised maximum residue levels are already 0.01 mg/kg.
The active substance Benthiavalicarb (CAS No. 413615-35-7) is suspected of having a carcinogenic effect and is also classified as an endocrine disruptor. Reasons enough to revoke the authorisation of the fungicidal active ingredient with Regulation (EU) 2023/2657 of 6.11.23 from 13.6.2024, residual quantities may be used up until 13.12.2024. For a few types of fruit and vegetables, the permitted maximum residue levels are still above 0.01 mg/kg. These may subsequently be reset to this value.
