The World Health Organisation (WHO) established June 7th as the World Food Safety Day in 2018. Every year since then, this important day is celebrated around the world to help raise awareness of the importance of food safety and how safer food contributes to better health.
World Food Safety Day is celebrated on June 7th every year to encourage producers, consumers and governments to acknowledge the mutual responsibility of food safety. The General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed this day through a resolution in which it indicated that:
“there is no food security without food safety and that, in a world where the food supply chain has become more complex, any adverse incident related to food safety can have negative effects on public health, trade and the world economy.”
Thus, the importance of food safety lies in the protection of the health of the people who consume them. There is a famous saying that "Health is wealth." Eating safe food is one of the most critical guarantees of good health. More than 600 million people fall ill and 420.000 die every year from eating contaminated food, 40% of them are children.
