The authorisation of the fungicidal active ingredient ipconazole will not be renewed and will expire earlier than originally scheduled.

In Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/939 of 10 May 2023, the EU Commission announced the non-renewal of the authorisation of ipconazole (CAS No. 125225-28-7) as of 31 May 2023.

The reason given was that the active substance poses a long-term risk to granivorous birds and is also classified as toxic for reproduction in humans.

Member States must withdraw authorisations for plant protection products containing ipconazole by 31.08.23 at the latest. The phase-out period ends on 29.02.24.

For fruits and vegetables, the maximum authorised level is 0.01 mg/kg for herbs and edible flowers 0.02 mg/kg. It should also be reduced to 0.01 mg/kg.
