Bioceres Crop Solutions Corp. received approval from the National Biosafety Commission of the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to grow and market its HB4 wheat.
Due to a newly introduced gene from sunflower, this HB4 wheat tolerates drought stress better than conventional varieties. The new GMO wheat may not be imported into the EU, nor cultivated or marketed. However, it cannot be ruled out that in the future the new GMO wheat could appear in the EU via detours.
The HB4 wheat was produced by means of classical genetic manipulation and not via the new gene shearing technology (e.g. CRISPR/Cas). It therefore possesses the analytically reliably detectable marker regions such as the NOS terminator and the bar gene. However, event-specific detection is not (yet) possible.
YOUR PLUS: The molecular biology laboratories of the AGROLAB Group can reliably detect this new GMO wheat within the framework of classic GMO screening.
