Most of the maximum residue limits for plant protection products in the EU apply to unprocessed products. It always becomes difficult when possible residues are to be assessed after processing with regard to their health hazards.
Has a residue load been reduced in the processing process, or have residues even concentrated? The monitoring authorities try to assess the respective risks in processed products via "processing factors" - often not without conflict in practice. The new "Information note" of the EU Commission is intended to provide assistance in these questions of assessment for authorities, laboratories and distributors.
