The authorisation for the use of the active substance thiophanate-methyl has expired and, as a rule, the maximum residue limits are also subsequently reduced to the limit of determination.
The EU Commission has withdrawn the approval for thiophanate-methyl (CAS No. 23564-05-8) with the EU 2020/1498 regulation with effect from October 19, 2020. The member states in which the fungicidal active ingredient was used must now in turn withdraw the authorizations for plant protection products by April 19, 2021. Remaining stocks must be used up by 19.10.2021.
The maximum residue limits will probably be reduced to 0.1 mg/kg in the near future. For citrus fruits, medlars, apricots, peaches, grapes, melons and other fruits as well as for tomatoes, okras, eggplants and pumpkins, MRLs are currently significantly higher.
