“MOAH should not be present in infant formula and follow-on formula” is the conclusion of the EFSA Standing Committee in their latest risk assessment in February 2020.
The Committee concluded that batches of infant formula, follow-on formula, foods for special medical purposes intended for infants and young children and young child formula containing an analysed content of 1 mg/kg MOAH per MOAH C-fraction provide clear evidence of presence of MOAH in these products and are therefore of concern for public health. This is not a MRL value, but an action level. However, it is related to the method used for sample preparation and determination of MOAH fraction acc. to JRC guidance documents and the conclusions from a workshop held on Dec. 5th 2019 together with the national reference labs. The level 1 mg/kg MOAH per MOAH C-fraction is currently the lowest level that can be reliably quantified in the majority of laboratories across the EU.
The AGROLAB lab Dr.A.Verwey offers the determination of MOSH/MOAH in oil & fat, food and feed matrices and packaging materials, using an in-house method by which we can achieve the requirements with respect to sensitivity and LOQ.
