Rusk

The EU Commission plans to set maximum levels for acrylamide in biscuits and rusks for infants and young children, as well as in baby food and cereal-based foods for infants and young children.

A draft Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No 1881/2006 to that effect should be put to the vote in the committee responsible on 23 June. According to the information available to us, the following limit values are proposed:

  • Biscuits and rusks for infants and young children: 150 μg/kg
  • Baby food, processed cereal-based foods for infants and young children without biscuits and rusks: 50 μg/kg.

The regulation, if adopted, will apply from 1.1.2021, with a sales period until 1.7.2021 for foods already on the market.

We are not only specialised in the analysis of food for special nutritional purposes, but were among the very first laboratories in Europe to offer acrylamide residues in food shortly after the problem became known, using an accredited LC MS/MS method developed in-house. Since then, we have examined many thousands of samples and have provided analytical support to numerous manufacturers of bakery products and snack items in their efforts to optimise their production processes.

In addition to residue and contaminant analyses, AGROLAB LUFA also carries out the determination of nutritional values, all vitamins, minerals and trace elements and, of course, our specialists evaluate your products with regard to all regulatory requirements.
