This determination is necessary to obtain the European certification under the “European Barbed Spike License System (ELS)” aimed at Agri-food industries, which authorizes the use of the international symbol “gluten-free” (Espiga Barrada Registered Trademark).

 

Celiac disease is an autoimmune-based multisystem disease caused by gluten. The consumption of this protein, damages the small intestine, altering the absorption of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients contained in food, leading to, among other problems, malnutrition.

 

The estimated prevalence among Europeans is around 1% of the population. For this reason, the control of the presence of gluten in food, plays an important role in food safety.

 

The Federation of Celiac Associations of Spain (FACE) has included AGROLAB Ibérica in the list of authorized laboratories for the analysis of gluten allergens. This determination is necessary to obtain the European certification under the “European Barbed Spike License System (ELS)” aimed at Agri-food industries, which authorizes the use of the international symbol “gluten-free” (Espiga Barrada Registered Trademark).
