Poland is the origin of more recalled food than any other country in the second quarter of 2019, according to data collated from the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
Recalls are expensive and contribute to image loss for manufacturers and retailers. The majority of recalls were caused by bacterial contamination of food as a consequence of low production hygiene.
Among the products affected were not only meat products , but also nuts and seeds.
HACCP-concepts combined with regular independent production control by expert labs can help to prevent and in case also to identify reasons for pitfalls. If the source and kind of contamination is identified, corrective measures can be defined and monitored to avoid further trouble.
