The European Commission amended since the 7th of February 2019, the regulation n° 2073/2005 concerning microbiological criteria for foodstuffs.
Changes are the following :
- Addition of a new criteria Listeria monocytogenes on sprouted seeds
- Food business operators manufacturing dried infant formulae or dried foods for special medical purposes intended for infants below six months, which pose a Cronobacter spp. risk shall monitor the processing areas and equipment for Enterobacteriaceae as part of their sampling scheme
- At least every 5 years, alternative methods should be subject to reassessment through renewal procedures
- Concerning detection method, the word « Absence » is replaced by « Not detected » (Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, …)
- Some analytical method reference are replaced by new reference Salmonella, coagulase positive staphylococci, Enterobacter sakasakii, histamines, aerobic colony counting, Enterobacteriaceae, Cronobacter spp
- Concerning unpasteurised fruit and vegetable juices (ready-to-eat), the word « unpasteurised » is explained (it means that the juice has not been subjected to pasteurisation obtained by time-temperature combinations or to other processes validated to achieve an equivalent bactericidal effect to pasteurisation as regards its effect on E.coli)
