Meet us

As one of the leading conferences RAFA (Recent Advances In Food Analysis) took place from 7th – 10th of November in Prague (Czech Republic), presenting latest developments in food analysis.

The 8th International symposium on recent advances in food analysis was attended by 760 scientists and delegates from industry from 53 countries and 5 continents - among them our former management trainee Dr. Katja Schmalbach.

Please read her summary:

“Besides new sensitive methods for the detection of natural toxins, e.g. mycotoxins and metabolites thereof, pyrrolizidine and tropane alkaloids, recent achievements in analytical methods and the harmonisation of the EU reference laboratories were discussed. Further topics presented during two major sessions focused on contaminants, like mineral oil residues (MOH/MOAH), persistent organic pollutants (e.g. per- and poly-fluorinated substances) and pesticides. Likewise, new multi-analyte methods for detection of contaminants of different classes were presented in multiple lectures.

However, the dominant topic of the convention this year was clearly dedicated to food authenticity and food fraud. Various studies on the determination of the geographical origin and/or the authenticity of fish, olive oil, teas and herbs were presented. The methods ranged from fingerprint MS-techniques to isotope analysis. Predominantly, these studies were conducted by using untargeted analysis, including the still ongoing discussion about the right way of validating the multivariate statistical methods and the data sharing. AGROLABGROUP is active in the fields of food authenticity testing and geographic origin proof since last year meanwhile offering routine analysis to attractive conditions.
