Danish food inspectors discovered adulterated olive oil from Greece.

A Danish consumer became suspicious after buying an extra virgin olive oil from Greece in a Danish supermarket in April. The questionable oil tasted more like sunflower oil, but looked green like olive oil. Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) inspectors followed up the complaint which led to a Greek gang, that was recently revealed by Greek police. Having manipulated ca 15.000 l of sunflower oil by adding green colour to turn it into valuable “olive oil extra virgine”, it seems that this group of criminals worked since 2015. By the case published in June also food shops in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands could be affected, as the Danish authorities speculated.

AGROLABGROUP in co-operation with its partner AlNuMed offers chemical fingerprinting for olive oils (and other valuable vegetable oils), that can detect and prevent manipulation with high probability.

AGROLAB FITS- Food Integrity Testing Services - initiative provides a bunch of sophisticated methods and exploits exciting ideas that will help to stop food fraud.
